Body recovered in missing boater incident

GEORGIAN BAY TOWNSHIP – On Aug. 22, 2016 at 3:15 p.m. the Southern Georgian Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a vessel adrift off of the southern tip of Beausoliel Island in Southern Georgian Bay.

It was determined that the Seadoo Speedster had been in use recently and a search of the area for the missing operator was commenced by the OPP Marine Unit, a Coast Guard helicopter, a Hercules aircraft and two Coast Guard vessels.

On Aug. 26, 2016 at approximately 8:55 a.m. members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Marine Unit and the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) recovered a body from the waters of Georgian Bay near Present Island.

The deceased is believed to be that of a missing 56-year-old male boater from Mississauga that the OPP have been looking for.

The Southern Georgian Bay OPP Crime Unit is continuing the investigation.
