Tactical officers refine their skills on Crawford Street (16 photos)

'It allows them to perfect their skills for when the real thing happens'

The Barrie police tactical response unit has been training today at a house on Crawford Street.

The ongoing training involves about a dozen officers, including canine and explosives response units, as well as Simcoe County paramedics, running through a number of scenarios.

"It allows them to perfect their skills for when the real thing happens," said Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon, adding it shows a commitment to their work and the community.

The home, located near Ardagh Road and Ferndale Drive, has been slated for demolition and the police department was alerted of its availability for training purposes.

Leon said it could also give them a unique floor plan to work with.

Officers were also at the same house last week.
