NEWS RELEASE
BARRIE AND DISTRICT CHRISTMAS CHEER
*************************
Board members of Barrie and District Christmas Cheer are breathing a sigh of relief today, as they confirm that they have reached their $250,000 fundraising goal in the final hours of their 2021 campaign.

“We were cutting it extremely close this year, but are absolutely blown away by what this community has been able to do for us. We had a lot of shopping to do this year with the return of our toy program, and started to panic when donations were slow to come in. But we never lost faith in this incredible community.” said Cindy Tonn, president, Barrie and District Christmas Cheer.

Although their fundraising goal had remained the same as in previous years, with application numbers at an all time high from so many new families who’ve never applied for help before, Christmas Cheer’s need for financial donations was even greater than ever before.

The organization, which typically collects and distributes food and toys to help nearly 1,700+ families in the Barrie, Innisfil, Angus, Oro-Medonte, and the surrounding area, were forced to run a fully financial campaign again this year, due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Although their campaign is wrapping up for 2021, Christmas Cheer is always looking ahead to future campaigns and will accept financial donations year-round, on their website: www.ChristmasCheerBarrie.com.

The organization wants the community to know that they can rest assure that every local family who needed assistance this year, will be waking up on Christmas morning with toys under the tree and food in the refrigerator, because of their support.

With all of the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic and thousands of local businesses facing challenges this year, Barrie and District Christmas Cheer wants to send a heartfelt thank you to everyone who was able to donate, help spread the word on social media, and also participate in many of the local fundraisers that were held over the past several weeks.
