51 new COVID cases reported in Barrie since Wednesday

The health unit has confirmed 99 new cases in the Simcoe-Muskoka region in today's update

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 99 new COVID-19 cases and one death in its latest update posted Nov. 12. 

The health unit did not post an update on Nov. 11, so today's report represents two days of data. 

The death reported today was a New Tecumseth man between 65 and 79 years old who died on Nov. 7, 2021.

The new cases reported in the region today are as follows:  

  • Barrie (51): 19 youth under 18 years old, eight people between 18 and 34 years old, six people between 35 and 44 years old, 13 people between 45 and 64 years old, and five people between 65 and 79 years old. Two cases are linked to close contact, two are outbreak-related, three are listed as community-acquired (no known link) and the rest are still under investigation. 
  • Springwater (3): One youth under 18 years old, and two people between 65 and 79 years old. One case is linked to close contact transmission and two are still under investigation. 
  • Collingwood (3): One youth under 18 years old, one person between 65 and 79 years old, and one person over 79 years old. All three cases are. still under investigation. 
  • Wasaga Beach (9): Two youth under 18 years old, two people between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, one person between 45 and 64 years old, and three people between 65 and 79 years old. The two youth cases are outbreak-related. One case is linked to close contact transmission, and one is listed as community-acquired (no known link). The rest of the cases are under investigation. 
  • Clearview (3): One person between 35 and 44 years old, one person between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. One case is outbreak-related, one is linked to close contact, and one is still under investigation. 
  • Innisfil (9): Two youth under 18 years old, two people between 18 and 34 years old, three people between 35 and 44 years old, and two people between 45 and 64 years old. One case is linked to close contact transmission, three are listed as community-acquired (no known link) and the rest are still under investigation. 
  • Bradford West Gwillimbury (3): One youth under 18 years old, one person between 18 and 34 years old, and one person between 35 and 44 years old. All three cases are still under investigation. 
  • Orillia (4): One youth under 18 years old, two people between 35 and 44 years old, and one person between 45 and 64 years old. Two cases are linked to close contact and two are still under investigation. 
  • Midland (1): One youth under 18 years old whose case is listed as community-acquired (no known link). This is the first case reported in Midland since Sept. 26.
  • Essa (4): One youth under 18 years old, two people between 18 and 34 years old, and one person between 45 and 64 years old. All four cases are still under investigation. 
  • New Tecumseth (4): Three youth under 18 years old and one person between 35 and 44 years old. Three cases are linked to close contact transmission and one is still under investigation. 
  • Muskoka District (5): Four people from Huntsville, and one person from Gravenhurst 

Included in the new cases reported today are 71 unvaccinated, two partially vaccinated, and 26 fully vaccinated people. 

There are currently 378 active cases in the region. 

Seventeen people from Simcoe County and two from Muskoka District are hospitalized with COVID-19.

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 14,496 cases of COVID-19 with 13,849 of those cases recovered and 269 cases ending in death. 

More than 73 per cent of the population living in Simcoe-Muskoka (including children) have received both doses of vaccine and 76 per cent have had at least one dose of a vaccine.

Current school outbreaks in Simcoe County include: 

  • Terry Fox Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 10, three cases.
  • St. Bernadette Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 9, one case.
  • St. Peters Secondary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 8, six cases.
  • Unnamed private school in Simcoe County, declared Nov. 8, two cases.
  • Willow Landing Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 4, three cases
  • ECC Samuel-de-Champlain public school, Orillia, declared Nov. 3, nine cases
  • St. Catherine of Siena Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 1, nine cases
  • Assikinack Public School, Barrie, declared Oct. 22, 16 cases 
  • Holy Cross Public School, Innisfil, declared Oct. 15, 29 cases

Other ongoing outbreaks reported in Simcoe County include: 

  • Recreation camp in Simcoe County, declared Nov. 10, two cases
  • Mapleview Community Church, Barrie, declared Nov. 4, 17 local cases (with more cases in people who live outside the region)
  • Unnamed childcare facility, declared Nov. 8, six cases
  • Unnamed childcare facility, declared Nov. 4, three cases
  • Unnamed fitness and recreation facility, declared Nov. 2, two cases
  • Unnamed shelter, declared Nov. 1, 21 cases
  • A second unnamed shelter, declared Nov. 8, seven cases.
  • Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH), Barrie in the transitional care unit, declared Oct. 29: 11 patient cases associated with the outbreak, plus fewer than five staff cases.
