The Downtown Barrie BIA is excited to announce that the 35-foot Christmas tree will be returning to Meridian Place this holiday season. Installation is scheduled to begin on Friday, Nov. 12.

A beautiful silver fir sourced locally at Drysdale’s Tree Farm will be erected by crane and securely held in place with a custom eight foot by 10 foot stand. Approximately 23,000 low-draw LED lights will be strung illuminating Meridian Place with the magic of the season.

This Christmas tree will honour the tree that stood for decades at Memorial Square which was diseased and too large to survive transplantation. Forty-one trees have been planted throughout Meridian Place and Memorial Square which one day will be as tall as their memorable predecessor.

A huge thank-you goes out to Pratt Homes for sponsoring the tree this year. Pratt Homes is a legacy builder that has been building homes of all shapes and sizes for everyone, no matter what stage of the family life cycle they’re in – from young adulthood to retirement years. The family’s tradition of building in Barrie started in 1890, and has continued for six generations.

Head to downtown Barrie on Saturday, Nov. 20 for the kick-off to the Noella Festival presented by Meridian Credit Union. Festivities include Open Air Dunlop, live music at Meridian Place, a visit from Santa and, of course, the tree-lighting celebration.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring the 35-foot Christmas tree back to Meridian Place for the entire city to enjoy,” mentioned Downtown Barrie BIA executive director, Kelly McKenna. “Bundle up, get your family and friends together and head to downtown Barrie to check out all the excitement and support our amazing local businesses.”

The Noella Festival continues until Dec. 31 with the fan-favourite Holly Days contest, the tree and wreath lot in support of Hospice Simcoe on Saturdays between Nov. 27 and Dec. 18, festive window displays and the Rotary Festival of Trees.

You’re not going to want to miss out on capturing the return of the 35-foot Christmas tree at Meridian Place!

See you on Monday at 10:30 a.m.!
