251 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Ontario today

There are now 3,486 active cases of the coronavirus in the province

According to Public Health Ontario, the COVID-19 curve is trending downwards.

In today’s epidemiological report, graphs showing the number of confirmed cases reported each day, the number of deaths reported each day, and the percent of positive tests per number of tests processed all slope downward with the highest peak in mid to late April.

Today the province’s public health agency reports 251 new cases of COVID-19 in Ontario, which is a 0.7 per cent increase in the total number of cases reported to-date.

So far this week, the daily increases have been from 100 to 200 cases fewer per day than those reported last week.

The province is reporting 11 deaths attributed to COVID-19 today, including one person between the ages of 20 and 39, six people between the ages of 60 and 79, and four people over the age of 80.

However, there are deaths not yet reported by Public Health Ontario.

The Ministry of Long-Term Care reports there have been 1,766 deaths of long-term care residents as a result of COVID-19 and seven staff deaths. Public Health Ontario has reported 1,591 resident deaths and five staff deaths.

There are 551 new recoveries reported in today’s public health update.

To-date, Public Health Ontario has confirmed 31,341 cases of COVID-19, with 25,380 recoveries (81 per cent) and 2,475 deaths. There are now 3,486 active cases of the coronavirus in Ontario, including 580 people hospitalized with COVID-19.

According to public health there are 75 active outbreaks at long-term care homes, 32 active out breaks at retirement homes and four active outbreaks at hospitals.

There have been 19,941 tests processed since yesterday's provincial report.

In Ontario, the incidence rate of COVID-19 is 210.8 cases per 100,000 population. The rate varies between health units with figures as low as 25 cases per 100,000 people in Renfrew County, and as high as 377 cases per 100,000 people in Toronto.

In the Simcoe-Muskoka region, the incidence rate is 83.2 cases per 100,000 people.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 501 cases of COVID-19 in the region to-date, including 422 recoveries and 36 deaths. There are six people hospitalized in the region with COVID-19 and another 37 still recovering from the coronavirus.

The case breakdown by municipality, according to the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, is as follows:

  • Barrie (161 total cases, 136 recoveries, 14 deaths)
  • Bradford West Gwillimbury (104 total cases, 87 recoveries, 12 deaths)
  • New Tecumseth (53 total cases, 44 recoveries, two in hospital, one death)
  • Innisfil (40 total cases, 33 recoveries, two in hospital)
  • Orillia (17 total cases, 14 recoveries, two deaths, one in hospital)
  • Collingwood (15 total cases, all recovered)
  • Wasaga Beach (14 total cases, 12 recoveries, one death)
  • Clearview (seven total cases, six recoveries, one death)
  • Springwater (10 total cases, eight recoveries, one death)
  • Midland (six total cases, all recovered)
  • Oro-Medonte (six total cases, three recoveries, two deaths)
  • Adjala-Tosorontio (eight total cases, seven recoveries)
  • Essa (14 total cases, 11 recoveries, one death)
  • Ramara (seven total cases, all recovered)
  • Tiny (three total cases, all recovered)
  • Tay (five total cases, all recovered)
  • Penetanguishene (five total cases, three recovered)
  • Severn (six total cases, five recovered)
