The final performer in the 2023 Artist Life Stories series, Valdy takes the stage May 28 at the iconic Orillia Opera House to share a few of the behind-the-scenes stories that helped build his folk-legend status within the music industry.

Told in an intimate, conversational format, audiences will be able to explore the entire creative journey of one of Canada’s greatest troubadours, from the first guitar string to Juno Award-winning acclaim on the national stage.

Artist Life Stories is presented in a live interview format, with personal anecdotes and exclusive performances interwoven throughout the show. The performance will finish with an open question-and-answer period where audiences are encouraged to interact with the icon.

Ottawa born and raised, Valdy’s music expertly captures the essence of the Canadian experience. First achieving mainstream success in 1972 with the release of Rock and Roll Song, Valdy is known for folk classics such as A Good Song, Yes I Can, and Simple Life (Ode to L.A.).

Of 18 total album releases, he has achieved two Juno Award wins for Folk Singer of the Year and Folk Entertainer of the Year, along with seven additional nominations and four certified gold records.

In 2011, after nearly 40 years since his first solo release, Valdy was appointed a member of the Order of Canada.

Remaining true to his roots in the early folk and country sounds of the 1960s, his solo career has brought him to several iconic stages across the U.S. and Canada, including a 2018 performance at the Mariposa Folk Festival.

Take a step back through time and experience the everlasting power of the folk music movement. Truly one of Canada’s greatest songwriters, Valdy’s Artist Life Stories session will be a special treat for music lovers.

Valdy takes the stage on May 30 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $60 and can be purchased online at OrilliaOperaHouse.ca or by calling the box office at 705-326-8011.
