The Noolands take it back to 1992 for their new single

Barrie band hasn't been in same room together since early March, but the creative juices are still flowing; New song being released Tuesday

The Noolands' new single, 1992, is being released on Tuesday, July 21 and is one of many songs the Barrie band has in their upcoming repertoire.

The Noolands have described themselves as a rock 'n' roll band who make music for their friends. Band member Brandon Davenport told BarrieToday that has never been more true than during COVID-19.

“We had so many plans, concerts and festivals, but that is obviously put on the back burner and now we’re just making music and enjoying each other from a distance,” Davenport said. “Not being able to head out to clubs like The Foxx and other events hurt a bit, but then you realize you have to rely on those close to you.”

The new single, 1992, is a song about the past and change, with a slow but dream-like melody.

Davenport says the song is one of many that is on the way from the local band.

“One thing about being stuck in your home and not being able to get out to perform is you draw from within. We’ve got over 30 songs ready or near-ready to go and will be working on those for later in the year and beyond,” said Davenport.

Social distancing has been a part of everyone’s life for more than four months, but Davenport can recall what the band was doing the last time they were all together in the same room.

“I was at a band meet with everybody in early March and someone texted me a pic of all the craziness happening at the grocery store. I left the meet, ran to the grocery store myself and then went home," he said.

"And that was really the last time the band was together."

Like many musicians and performers, The Noolands have had to find new ways to get creative. But Davenport admits they were already doing some new things and will continue to.

“It was kind of a case of doubling down on what we were doing before. We had been doing live streams for years; we live stream a Christmas special every year, as well,” he said. “It was accepting that we maybe can’t go back to the way things were, but we would have to just move forward and use our friend group and those we’re connected with.”
