South Simcoe Theatre is setting the stage for its production of God of Carnage, by Yasmina Reza.

God of Carnage won numerous Tony Awards as well as a Laurence Olivier Award for comedy.

In a news release, South Simcoe Theatre described the play as follows:

“A playground altercation between 11-year-old boys brings together two sets of Brooklyn parents for a meeting to resolve the matter. At first, diplomatic niceties are observed, but as the meeting progresses, tensions emerge and the gloves come off, leaving the couples with more than just their liberal principles in tatters. The playwright explores the complexity of human behaviour in a dark, humorous way.”

The play stars Chris Cluff as Alan Raleigh, Franca Ianni as Annette Raleigh, Stephen Dobby as Michael Novak, and Puneet Bajwa as Veronica Novak. It is directed by Richard Varty and produced by Mel Hinch.

God of Carnage will be presented at South Simcoe Theatre (1 Hamilton St., Cookstown) from March 1 to 17. Show times are 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays.
