GLOWING HEARTS CHARITY

The first season of the Simcoe Youth Choir was a huge success, and Glowing Hearts Charity now has plans to grow the program.
The inaugural season ended with the 28 participants from across Simcoe County bringing tears of joy and a standing ovation from their audience who filled the Five Points Theatre for their final performance called Spirit in My Song.
For many of the members it was their first time in a theatre, let alone performing in one. Along with family and friends, the venue was filled with supporters and local dignitaries who cheered on this incredible group of young people who met for the first time at the end of January.
The cost of participating in the choir is free for those in need, and just $60 for those with financial means.
“Our goal is to remove the financial barriers to participating in music programs, not just the cost of the program itself, but for the extras as well. Often families sign up for extracurricular activities to then have to pay for costumes or uniforms and tickets to see their children. T-shirts for our choir and tickets to the final performance were free. Following the performance we also provided a free reception for everyone to celebrate the hard work of our choir members, musicians, volunteers, and choir director,” says Sarah Fleming, managing director and board chair of Glowing Hearts Charity.
The fall session of the Simcoe Youth Choir starts on Monday, Sept. 18, at Hillcrest Public School. The junior program (grades 3 to 5) will run from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. and the senior program (grades 6 to 8) will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. There will be opportunities for the juniors and seniors to perform together, as well as on their own, with the seniors getting to work on harmonies.
