DAVESTOCK, a local event to honour the memory of Dave Yole, is coming back for a second season.

The second annual DAVESTOCK, a musical event in honour of Dave Yole, who died Dec. 4, 2019, takes the stage June 24 at the Queens Hometown Bar.

Yole was a local musician, environmental advocate and avid cyclist. Friends say he was a well-respected member of the community, passionate about music and creating a warm, friendly and inclusive environment.

Yole, who worked at Georgian College, MEC and CFB Borden, was a founding member of several local bands including JDM and Lookout Nelson. The upcoming event, organized by his friends and family, is being held on a date that was special to him. He always organized an annual Summer Solstice concert in his neighbourhood for a local charity.

“Dave was a great guy who provided practice space and instruments for local bands and supported a wide range of fundraisers and charities like Gilda’s Club, Operation Hero, and Guitars for Vets,” says Nancy Blain, one of the organizers and a former bandmate. “Last year’s event was really special and we’re looking forward to honouring him again with a day of music and fundraising.”

DAVESTOCK will start at 2 p.m. with an hour-long acoustic stage featuring a number of local performers including The Sun Down Drivers, Kevin Harradine and a band comprised of Yole’s friends. At 3:40 p.m., things will switch gears with a slate of bands scheduled to hit the stage.

  • 3:40 p.m.           Randal Pee Coltrane & The Hard Livers
  • 4:55 p.m.           Mad Hatterz
  • 6:10 p.m.           Lookout Nelson
  • 7:25 p.m.           The Fred Grant Squares

In keeping with Yole’s spirit, the event is free, but donations will be accepted. In addition, there will be a merchandise table featuring bandanas, hats, pins, and T-shirts, with all the proceeds going to Guitars to Kids.
