The inaugural DAVESTOCK – a day of music, love and appreciation will take place on Saturday, June 25 at the Queens Hometown Bar (94 Dunlop St. E., Barrie). The event is organized by friends and family of David Yole, who passed away suddenly on Dec. 4, 2019.

David was a local musician, environmental advocate and avid cyclist. He was a well-respected member of the community, passionate about music and creating a warm, friendly and inclusive environment. Dave, who worked at Georgian College, MEC and Base Borden, was a founding member of several local bands including JDM and Lookout Nelson.

“Dave was a great guy who provided practice space and instruments for local bands and supported a wide range of fundraisers and charities like Gilda’s Club, Operation Hero, and Guitars for Vets,” said Nancy Blain one of the organizers and a former bandmate. “We wanted to have a fundraising event to acknowledge him and a day of music just seemed fitting. The date we picked is special too as Dave always organized an annual Summer Solstice concert in our neighbourhood for a local charity.”

The event will start at 2 p.m. with an hour-long acoustic stage featuring a number of local performers including Richard Bullis and Tara Brox from The Sun Down Drivers. At 3:30 p.m., things will switch gears with a slate of bands scheduled to hit the stage:

  • 3:30 p.m.                          Randal Pee Coltrane & The Hard Livers
  • 4:15 p.m.                          Mad Hatterz
  • 5 p.m.                               PJ Wilson & The Midnight Hour
  • 5:45 p.m.                          The Fred Grant Squares
  • 6:30 to 10 p.m.                 Lookout Nelson

In keeping with Dave’s spirit, the event is free but donations will be gladly accepted. In addition, there will be a merch table – featuring bandanas, pins and T-shirts – with all the proceeds going to Guitars for Vets.
