BarrieFolk is excited to host Stephen Fearing, one of Canada’s finest singer-songwriters, on Sunday, May 5.

Born in Vancouver and raised in both Dublin, Ireland, and back in British Columbia, Stephen has been named one of Canada’s finest singer-songwriters.

With a mesmerizing blend of roots, folk, and pop he cultivated national and international audiences for his music, building it ‘old school’ through countless performances at intimate venues, concert halls, and festivals of all sizes, including major events like the Stanfest, Reading Festival, Shrewsbury Folk Festival, and WOMAD.

Stephen has released 12 solo albums and, over the course of his celebrated career, collaborated with artists such as Bruce Cockburn, Rosanne Cash, Richard Thompson, Cassandra Wilson, Nick Lowe, Sarah McLachlan, Rose Cousins, Murray McLauchlan, Margo Timmins, Erin Costelo, Suzie Vinnick, and many more.

In 1996 he co-founded Canadian supergroup Blackie and the Rodeo Kings with Colin Linden and Tom Wilson. Almost 25 years later and with nine albums to their credit, the band has become one of the most respected names in North American roots-rock. Stephen also released two albums and toured as one half of the duo Fearing & White with fellow Irish son Andy White.

Stephen’s abiding love for his craft and ability to delight audiences are reflected in multiple Juno and Canadian Folk Music nominations and awards and an ever-expanding touring circuit throughout North America, the U.K., and Europe.

The concert starts at 7 p.m. and take place at Burton Avenue United Church (37 Burton Ave., Barrie). Tickets are $30 (plus $3.64 surcharge); $35 at the door (cash only). Tickets can be purchased at www.barriefolk.com. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
