If you are looking for something to do in the Barrie area this weekend, here are some events that could pique your interest:

Horseshoe Valley Bike Fest

This event takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Horseshoe Resort, located north of Barrie at 1101 Horseshoe Valley Rd. W.

The schedule of events includes downhill and slalom races, bike maintenance clinics and guided rides through the Copeland Forest.  

It will include the latest in mountain bike gear, contests, and a chance to engage with industry representatives and community associations. There will also be a kids' zone with colouring, games and activities.

Glam It Up

The sixth annual Glam It Up Barrie event, in support of the Women and Children's Shelter of Barrie, takes place Sunday.

The event will be held at the Barrie Curling Club, 175 Essa Rd.

It offers a chance to get dolled up and have a professional photo shoot while connecting with the community, networking with small businesses, supporting local vendors, and raising awareness and money for charity.

Barrie Wedding Expo

The Ring's Barrie Wedding Expo takes place Sunday at Liberty North from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Liberty North is located at 100 Caplan Ave., Unit 1, in south-end Barrie.

Gala in the Woods

Billed as a "spectacular fusion of forest and flavour," this event takes place Saturday evening at Springwater Provincial Park in Midhurst, starting at 5 p.m.

The event is hosted by Living Green Barrie, "where sustainability, community and culinary excellence converge for an unforgettable evening."

It includes an immersive forest experience, paired with a tantalizing menu of local, farm-to-table cuisine, all to raise money to help Living Green reach its goal of planting 10,000 trees for climate action.

You're not out of the woods yet...

Free guided tours of the Simcoe County Forest will take place Sunday.

This event takes place at the Sutherland Tract, located at 2573 5th Line in Oro-Medonte Township, starting at 10 a.m. Another is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Baxter Tract, located at 6596 6th Line in Essa Township.

The County of Simcoe is offering free guided hikes in several county forest locations throughout the region. Each hike will be approximately 1.5 kilometres in length and on a beginner-level trail, taking no more than 90 minutes to complete.

These guided hikes will be led by a knowledgeable and experienced county forestry staff member who will provide details on the rich history and current management practises of the Simcoe County Forest.

Participants are reminded to dress according to weather conditions as tours will commence rain or shine, and bring water bottles or additional items in a backpack.

Angus Rock and Roll Festival

The Angus Rock and Roll Festival takes place Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Angus Arena on County Road 10.

The event includes an Elvis tribute artist contest with open and senior categories.

The Dreamers Showband will perform at 8 p.m., Saturday.

Simcoe County Quilt, Rug & Artisan Fair

The Simcoe County Museum is hosting the Simcoe County Quilt, Rug & Artisan Fair from Friday to Sunday.

This event celebrates the artistry of local artisans, offering a chance for both newcomers and seasoned enthusiasts to explore traditional crafts like embroidery, quilting, weaving, pottery, rug hooking, lacemaking, and more. 

The event runs each day from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for youth and seniors, and $5 for children. Pre-schoolers and museum members get in free.

Gussapolooza

The Gussapolooza Music and Arts Festival returns to Cookstown, beginning this afternoon and continuing all weekend, for three days of local bands and artists at the Georgian Bay Steam Show Grounds, located at 4635 15th Line.

With live music including rock, hip-hop, pop, country, electronic, and folk on three stages in addition to comedy shows, buskers, workshops, food trucks and stands, and vendors, attendees are invited to enjoy the festival’s “unique three-day camp-out extravaganza” or purchase a three-day pass without access to campgrounds.

Day passes are also available for each day of the festivities. The festival’s hours are Friday from 3 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 a.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Wasaga Beach Blues Festival

This three-day outdoor music festival will have numerous artists on two main stages, as well as a vendors village and a "liquid lounge."

The festival runs Friday from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday from noon until 11 p.m., and Sunday from noon until 8 p.m.

It is being held at the Stonebridge Town Centre, located at 291 Main St., in Wasaga Beach.
