My family and I have lived on Grove Street East in Barrie for over eight years now. It has always been a busy area as there is the Grove Street plaza across the street.

However, we have noticed in the last three to four years or so the alarming increase of Mustangs, Chargers and other sport cars that not only drive at high speeds that should be on a highway, not a residential street, but they also rev their engines and cause so much noise and disturbance at all hours of the day and night. They do burnouts in the plaza and peel out of there speeding toward a stop sign.

I myself have almost been hit four times by a vehicle at the corner of Grove and Johnson streets while picking my kids up from the school bus. I have gotten into yelling matches and even punched the window of a car that almost took my legs out.

I have called the police many times. Nothing comes of it, because unless they see it, they can't do nothing about it. I have many of them on video and have their licence plate numbers, but still nothing is done.

There are many children and animals along this stretch... it's only a matter of time before there is a serious or fatal accident. Will they listen then? Will they put in speed bumps or a crosswalk then?

As a concerned mother, I think it's very sad and frustrating that something really bad needs to happen before something is done.

Our political parties come knocking on our doors to elect them and every time they come, the No. 1 issue with residents in this neighbourhood is speeding. They all say they are going to change it or do something about it, but it has only gotten worse.

I think they need to have some undercover police parked in certain areas so they can see for themselves what is going on, instead of sitting in the Grove Street or Duckworth plazas talking to each other having coffee, which I have witness many times. Or parked behind the Eastview Arena.

They aren't going to drive recklessly if they know the police are there in their cop cars. Let's be serious!
