LETTER: Let's hold off on breaking away from the monarchy

While the monarchy mostly represents tradition and doesn’t cost Canada tax dollars, I believe there are advantages to remaining a Commonwealth member.

For one thing, we don’t know what will happen politically south of the border and, worse still, what Putin has planned for Europe and the Canadian North.

It’s nice to know that we have Commonwealth members on our side in the event of the unthinkable.

Before we break ties, let’s see what King Charles and possibly soon-to-be King William do about bringing the monarchy into the 21st century.
