The Bun Bus, a food truck in north Barrie run by local couple Justin Ricciotti and Kate Daniels, continues to innovate and has recently expanded its offerings for the season.

“The dill pickle poutine has been a hit since we launched the specialty menu,” Justin tells BarrieToday.

Another star on the new menu is the ‘Morning Weenie’ dog.

“It’s an all-beef jumbo hot dog topped with cheddar, bacon, over-easy egg and drizzled with ketchup," he adds.

Justin explained that the new offerings help expand the general concept of a food truck menu.

“We developed our new specialty menu because we want to offer fun options beyond the classic chip truck menu," he says.

Justin says he feels very grateful for so much positive feedback regarding not only their new menu, but also their wide selection of popular lunch items.

“Of course, we see many customers returning for our classic poutine and hot dogs,” he says.

The Bun Bus has been running for about two years and the husband-and-wife pair has since worked tirelessly to build their brand.

“We attribute our success to the way we put customers first and a lot of hard work. We truly believe in the success of the business," Justin says.

Apart from the positive feedback received so far, Justin’s journey in the food truck business is filled with some good stories and unusual situations at times.

“Not long ago, we had a woman tell us our dill pickle poutine helped her through her pregnancy," he says.

Born and raised in Barrie, Justin says he and Kate, who has been living in Barrie the past 10 years, make a great team.

“I always had an interest in entrepreneurship, while Kate is passionate about the food industry," he says.

The direct relationship with customers is one of the rewards for the food truck owners, who have been married for seven years.

“We both enjoy being involved in the community, and providing people with a great experience that hopefully keeps them coming back," Justin says.

The Bun Bus has just named as the Platinum Winner for the 2023 CommunityVotes Award for Best Food Trucks, and placed second for Best Fast Food in Barrie.

Justin says he and Kate are greatly humbled by the customers' recognition.

“We are very honoured to have won Barrie’s best food truck through community votes," he says.

The Bun Bus is located at 320 Bayfield St., off Highway 400, and is open every day, except Monday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with extended hours until 8 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
