Two more people succumb to COVID at Roberta Place, bringing sad death toll to 63 residents

Roberta Place official also confirms there are 49 active cases among residents in the 137-bed long-term care home, which has been devastated by the virus

Two more residents of the Roberta Place long-term care in south-end Barrie have died after contracting COVID-19 and there has also been an increase in the number of positive cases among staff.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit declared an outbreak at the Essa Road facility on Jan. 8. Since that time, there have now been 63 resident deaths as well as one essential caregiver linked to the home, bringing the sad death toll to 64 people overall. 

On Monday, Roberta Place community relations co-ordinator Stephanie Barber also confirmed there are currently 49 active cases among residents in the 137-bed long-term care home, which has been ravaged by the virus. 

There are also 69 positive cases among team member cases, which is up from 67 reported on Sunday. 

Health officials have confirmed the presence of the B.1.1.7. variant, originating from the United Kingdom, inside the Barrie facility.
