Ontario reports 653 new COVID cases today

More deaths also being reported again today following 'data review'

Ontario Public Health is reporting 653 new positive COVID-19 cases today. 

That's down from Friday's record-setting 732 cases, although several cases were added yesterday as part of a "data review."

There have now been 53,633 lab-confirmed cases in the province, of which 45,285 people have recovered, including 435 patients since the last report on Friday.

There have also been four more fatalities due to the virus, as well as 37 additional deaths linked to the data review, mostly linked to long-term care facilities. That brings the overal death toll to 2,968. 

Approximately two-thirds of all COVID-related deaths in Ontario (1,948) have occurred in long-term care.

There are currently 5,380 active cases in Ontario. 

Since yesterday's report, 46,254 new tests have been completed in the previous 24-hour period, bringing the provincial total to just over four million. Of those, 91,322 remain under investigation. 

There are 155 people hospitalized with COVID-19, a decrease of 12 from Friday. Forty-one of those in hospital are in intenstive care, an increase of three from the previous day. Twenty-three patients are on ventilators, which is an increase of two since yesterday.

As of yesterday, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit had reported 921 cases of COVID-19. There are now 786 cases listed as recovered. There are 94 active cases in the region. There are no hospitalizations reported on the health unit website. Thirty-eight people have died since the pandemic began.
