Eight new COVID cases reported in Barrie today

With an additional case in Oro-Medonte, this is the highest number of cases reported by the health unit in a single day since June 25

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported eight new cases of COVID-19 in Barrie residents today, plus one new case in Oro-Medonte Township. 

Eight of the nine cases have the transmission source listed as "under investigation." One Barrie case is listed as a close contact. 

The individuals who have tested positive include a man and a woman between 45 and 64 years old, a boy and two girls under 18 years old, and a man and two women between 18 and 34 years old. 

The Oro-Medonte case is a woman between 18 and 34 years old. This is the first case reported in Oro-Medonte since June 1.

This is the highest number of cases reported by the health unit in a single day since June 25, when there were 12 new cases confirmed in the region. 

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 628 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region to date, with 597 of those reported in Simcoe County.

Thirty-six people have died and the health unit has reported 561 recoveries. The incidence rate for Simcoe-Muskoka region is 103.6 cases per 100,000 people in the population. 

There are 30 active cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County including three people hospitalized, according to the health unit's July 17 epidemiological report.
