New outbreak declared at Barrie elementary school

There are also four new cases of COVID-19 being reported in schools in Barrie and Angus today

An outbreak has been declared by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit at Andrew Hunter Elementary School in Barrie, after two new COVID-19 cases were reported at the school this week. In total, the school has three active cases, with two classroom closures.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is responsible for declaring a COVID-19 outbreak in the region. According to the health unit site, an outbreak is declared at a school when student and/or staff have confirmed COVID-19 cases that can be linked to the educational setting.

Three other Simcoe County schools had outbreaks declared by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit last week that are still listed as active: Maple Grove Public School in Barrie, St. Theresa's Catholic High School in Midland, and Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Bradford.

There are also four new cases of COVID-19 being reported in schools across Simcoe County today.

St. Joan of Arc has one new case and two new classroom closures today. This adds to two active cases and classroom closures previously reported at the school.

St. Michael the Archangel Catholic School in Barrie has two new cases and one classroom closure.

In Angus, Our Lady of Grace Catholic School is reporting one new case. One classroom is closed as a result.

As of March 11, at the Simcoe County District School Board, there are currently 20 active COVID-19 cases:

  • Three cases at Andrew Hunter Elementary School in Barrie, with two classroom closures, outbreak declared Mar. 9
  • Two cases at Tay Shores Public School in Victoria Harbour, with two classrooms closed
  • One case at Tecumseth South Central Public School in Tottenham, with one classroom closure
  • Two cases at West Bayfield Elementary School in Barrie, with two classroom closures
  • Two cases at Bradford District High School with two classroom closures
  • One case at Chris Hadfield Public School in Bradford, with one classroom closure
  • One case at Orillia Secondary School
  • One case at Ardagh Bluffs Public School in Barrie, with one classroom closure
  • One case at Fieldcrest Elementary School in Bradford
  • Two cases at Steele Street Public School in Barrie, with two classrooms closed
  • One case at Goodfellow Public School in Innisfil, with one classroom closed
  • One case at Maple Grove Public School, with one classroom closed, outbreak declared Mar. 1
  • One case at W.C. Little Elementary School in Barrie, with one classroom closed
  • One case at W.H. Day Elementary School in Bradford

At the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, there are currently 20 active COVID-19 cases:

  • Our Lady of Grace Catholic School in Angus has one case and one classroom closure, reported on Mar. 10
  • St. Michael the Archangel Catholic School in Barrie has two cases and one classroom closure, reported on Mar. 10
  • St. Charles Catholic School in Bradford has one case and one classroom closure, reported on Mar. 8
  • The Good Shepherd Catholic School in Barrie has two cases and two classroom closures, reported on Mar. 7
  • Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic School in Barrie has one case with no classroom closures, reported Mar. 4
  • St. Mary's Catholic School in Collingwood has one case, with one classroom closure, reported Mar. 3
  • St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School in Bradford has one case, with one classroom closure, reported Feb. 24
  • Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Bradford has four cases, with three classroom closures, reported on Mar. 9, outbreak declared Mar. 2
  • St. Theresa's Catholic High School in Midland has two cases, with two classroom closures, reported on Feb. 28, outbreak declared Mar. 1
  • St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School has three cases, with four classroom closures, reported on Mar. 10
  • St. Marie of the Incarnation Catholic School in Bradford has two cases, with one classroom closure, reported on Feb. 27

The health unit will contact those who are considered to have had high-risk exposure to a known case of COVID-19.
