New COVID cases confirmed today in Barrie, Penetang

Region's health unit says one case is a child from Penetanguishene and the other is a Barrie man

The region's health unit has confirmed two new cases of COVID in Simcoe County today, one of which is a person under the age of 17. 

According to the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, a girl under 17 from Penetanguishene has tested positive for the coronavirus. Her case is listed as community-acquired. Hers is the first case reported in Penetanguishene since July 23.

The second case included in today's report is a Barrie man between 18 and 34 years old. The transmission for his case is under investigation. 

Yesterday, after providing the daily case update, the health unit confirmed a new case involving an employee who works at Canadian Tire in Barrie's south end. At the time, the case had not been included in the health unit's list of positive cases.

Canadian Tire confirmed the case and noted the employee worked in the warehouse away from customers.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 674 cases of COVID-19 to date, with 642 of those cases located in Simcoe County.

There are 625 cases now recovered and 37 people have died in the region. 

There are still 12 active cases in the county including residents from Barrie (5), Innisfil (3), New Tecumseth (1), Essa (1), Penetanguishene (1), and Ramara (1). One person from New Tecumseth and one person from Ramara are hospitalized with COVID-19, but neither are in intensive care.

In Simcoe-Muskoka, the incidence rate for the coronavirus is 113.4 cases per 100,000 people in the population.
