Five Simcoe-Muskoka residents are among 62 confirmed cases in the second COVID-19 outbreak at State Windows in Vaughan.
Of the other confirmed cases, 28 are also from Peel Region, 22 from Toronto, and seven from York Region, according to a Nov. 29 public notice.
York Region Public Health declared an outbreak at State Windows on Nov. 20 after conducting an on-site inspection of the facility and working with the company to identify close contacts of people with confirmed infections.
An investigation with the Ministry of Labour is ongoing.
As the workplace is not open to the public, the risk of exposure to York Region residents is low, according to the notice.
Last May, 17 employees were infected in an outbreak at the design and manufacturing firm's Hunter Valley Road facility.
York Region public health investigators are working with the other public health units to monitor symptoms and share information needed for the investigation.
York Region has recommended several prevention measures to the company, and the outbreak is already showing signs of improvement, the notice states. Some of the actions taken are:
- Providing face shields, individual hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes to workers
- Increasing monitoring of adherence to physical distancing requirements and maximum occupancy limits in washrooms
- Introducing the cleaning of lunchroom tables after every use
- Introducing multi-lingual screeners to address language barriers.
