Roberta Place Long Term Care Home in south-end Barrie was briefly posted to the local health unit’s list of active outbreaks, but it was declared over soon after.

According to the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, a staff member working at the Essa Road home tested positive for COVID-19, thereby activating the outbreak designation.

However, upon further inspection of the positive result, it was determined to be either a false positive or a remote positive.

A remote positive occurs when a person has been infected with COVID-19 in the past, but has since recovered.

The health unit determined the staff member is not infectious.

Dr. Charles Gardner, medical officer of health for Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, said the outbreak at Roberta Place was declared over on Monday, just a couple of days after it was listed as an outbreak.

Roberta Place previously had a COVID-19 outbreak in September when a staff member tested positive.

No other cases were reported during that outbreak.
