An outbreak has been declared by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit at St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School in Barrie.

On Tuesday morning, a new COVID-19 case was reported at the Mapleton Avenue school, adding to two previously reported cases from the weekend. Overall, the school has three active cases, with three classrooms closed.

An outbreak at a school is defined by the local health unit as two or more lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in students and/or staff (or other visitors) with an epidemiological link (i.e. shared space or objects with each other), within a 14-day period, where at least one case could have contracted COVID-19 in the school (including transportation and before/after school care).

Two other Barrie schools — Warnica Elementary School and Willow Landing Elementary School — were declared in outbreak by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit over the weekend.

Nottawasaga Pines Secondary School, in Angus, is also still currently in outbreak.

The outbreak at Our Lady of Grace Catholic School in Angus was declared over on Nov. 23, reported to the public on Nov. 24.

The schools all remain open.

The school boards and the health unit have not reported whether the individuals are students or staff members.
