*************************
Two new positive cases of Coronavirus (Covid-19) were reported in Simcoe-Muskoka on Sunday, including one in Barrie - the second confirmed case in the city since Friday.

“I understand that many people are experiencing a heightened level of anxiety as we see local cases confirmed and I want to remind everyone that we should stay calm and continue doing everything we can to contain the spread of Covid-19 in our community,” said Barrie-Innisfil Member of Parliament John Brassard.

Health Canada has advised Canadians abroad to return home and self isolate for 14 days. MP Brassard and his staff responded to phone calls, e-mails, and social media messages all weekend from Barrie-Innisfil residents and businesses as the situation continues to evolve.

Brassard is encouraging people to heed the advice of Health Canada and the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.

“It is more important than ever to remain vigilant,” Brassard said. "Something we can all do to help contain the virus is to practice social distancing. That means avoiding crowed places and non-essential gatherings.”

Here are some ways to protect yourself:

  • Wash your hands frequently, for at least 20 seconds
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
  • Avoid close contact with anyone who is sick
  • Stay at least two metres away from anyone who is coughing or sneezing
  • Cough and sneeze into your sleeve
  • Stay at home if you are sick Brassard’s constituency office will remain closed to the public until further notice.

Staff will continue to be available during regular business hours by phone and email to answer questions and respond to any concerns during the closure.

Passport services have been suspended until further notice, but anyone needing to reach Brassard’s staff can call 705-726-5959 or email [email protected].

The decision to close the office came after Canada’s Parliament was suspended until April 20.
