Everything you need to know about advance polls and voter buses

The first step is to make sure you are on the voters' list; you can do this by checking the city's website

Barrie’s municipal election is now less than a month away, so many dates are fast approaching, such as locations and dates for advance polls.  

The municipal election is set for Monday, Oct. 22. One person will be elected to city council from each of the city’s 10 wards, in addition to a mayor.

The City of Barrie made its voters’ list available on Sept. 4, so you’re first step should be to make sure you’re on it.

Voting will open on Saturday, Oct. 6 at Barrie City Hall only, located at 70 Collier St., from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Apartment and condominium voting will be held Oct. 9-11 at several locations across the city. Under the Municipal Elections Act, any multi-unit building with 75 or more unit and a common room can be a alternate voting location.

On Tuesday, Oct. 9, voting will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Georgian Towers, Cedarwood Court and The Bay Club, followed from 4-8 p.m. at Coral Living Centre, Edgehill Apartments, Barrie Anne Gardens, Highpoint Apartments, Marina Bay and the Georgian College Residences.

On Wednesday, Oct. 10, voting will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Terraces at Heritage Squares and 33 Brooks St., followed by 4-8 p.m. at Heather Forest Apartments, Summitview Apartments, Coulter Glen, Maplewood Condominium, 181 Simcoe Condo Corp., Collier Place Seniors’ Residence, Imperial Towers, Timberwalk and Georgian Green.

Also on Oct. 10, voting at long-term care homes will occur from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Grove Park Home for Seniors, Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre’s geriatrics and in-patient rehab, Owen Hill Care Community, Simcoe Terrace, Windermere Gardens Residence, Whispering Pines and Serenity Barrie Assisted Living.

On Thursday, Oct. 11, residents can cast ballots from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Ovenden Place, Sunnidale Place Apartments, Mill Creek and Watercrest, followed from 4-8 p.m. at Three Links Co-op, Waterview and Grand Harbour, Bayshore SCC #159 West Tower, Nautica Condos, Gateway Co-op and Lakeview Condos.

Voting at long-term care homes will also occur Oct. 11 from 9:30-11:30 a.m., at Barrie Manor, Victoria Village Nursing Home, Mulcaster Mews, Coleman Care Centre, Woods Park Care Centre and Roberta Place Long-Term Care and Retirement Lodge.

On Friday, Oct. 12 from 9:30-11:30 a.m., voting will be conducted at the IOOF Senior Citizens Home, Barrington Retirement Residences, Ontario Long-Term Home for the Deaf, Waterford Retirement Home and Mill Creek Care Centre.

Voting buses (check the city’s website, www.barrie.ca, for scheduling details) will be running:

* Friday, Oct. 12 from 9 a.m. until noon from Centennial Park and 5-8 p.m. at North Barrie Crossing;

* Saturday, Oct. 13, from 9 a.m. until noon from the Barrie Molson Centre, 1-4 p.m. from Georgian Mall, and 5-8 p.m. from the Zehrs on Bryne Drive;

* Monday, Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. until noon at the Allandale Recreation Centre, 1-4 p.m. at Georgian College, and 5-8 p.m. from the Zehrs on Big Bay Point Road;

* Tuesday, Oct. 16 from 9 a.m. until noon at the Shoppers Drug Mart at Big Bay Point and Prince William Way, from 1-4 p.m. at the Walmart plaza on Mapleview Drive West, and 5-8 p.m. at the Manhattan Condos;

* Wednesday, Oct. 17 from 9 a.m. until noon at Meridian Place, 1-4 p.m. at Kozlov Mall and 5-8 p.m. at Cedar Pointe Plaza.

Advance polls will also be open starting Thursday, Oct. 18 and Friday, Oct. 19 from 1-8 p.m. at various locations around the city. Polls will also be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20.

Advance polls will be open Thursday, Oct. 18 and Friday, Oct. 19 from 1-8 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 20 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at several locations around the city including: Allandale Recreation Centre (190 Bayview Dr.), Bayfield Mall (320 Bayfield St.), Barrie City Hall (70 Collier St.), Covenant Christian Reformed Church (101 Ardagh Rd.), Dorian Park Centre (227 Sunnidale Rd.), East Bayfield Community Centre (80 Livingstone St. E.), Ferris Lane Community Church of the Nazarene (49 Ferris Lane), First Baptist Church (550 Grove St. E.), Hi-Way Pentecostal Church (50 Anne St. N.), Holly Community Centre (171 Mapleton Ave.), Hyde Park Public School (72 The Queensway), Lampman Lane Community Centre (59 Lampman Lane), Life Church Barrie (211 Marsellus Dr.), Northwest Barrie United Church (464 Ferndale Dr. N.), Painswick Library (48 Dean Ave.), Parkview Centre for Seniors (189 Blake St.), Southshore Community Centre (205 Lakeshore Dr.), St. Catherine of Siena School (111 Summerset Dr.), Surface Water Treatment Plant (20 Royal Parkside Dr.), and Tollendale Village (274 Hurst Dr.).

The final day to vote is Monday, Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Voting will also be held Oct. 22 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Barrie Manor, RVH Geriatrics and In-patient Rehab, Owen Hill Care Community, Simcoe Terrace, Victoria Village Nursing Home, Mulcaster Mews and Windermere Gardens. From 10:30-11:30 a.m., voting will take place at Grove Park Home for Seniors, Coleman Care Centre, Woods Park Care Centre, Whispering Pines, Roberta Place Long-Term Care and Retirement Lodge, IOOF Senior Citizens Home, Barrington Retirement Residences, Waterford Retirement Home, Mill Creek Care Centre and Serenity Barrie Assisted Living.

The new term of council begins Dec. 1.

To see if you’re on the voters’ list, visit barrie.ca/VoterLookup, call 705-728-VOTE (8683), Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., or visit Legislative and Court Services, located on the first floor of city hall, during regular business hours.

To be on the voters' list and cast a ballot in Barrie, you must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years of age, a resident of the City of Barrie or a non-resident owner or tenant of land in the city (or their spouse), and not be prohibited from voting under any law.

An eligible elector can add their name or update their voters’ list information by completing an application to

amend the voters' list, which is available at barrie.ca/election or Legislative and Court Services at city hall.

Additions or changes to the voters' list are permitted up to and including final voting day, Oct. 22.
