Wrong-way drivers on Line 7 in Innisfil continue to be a problem for South Simcoe police.

NEWS RELEASE
SOUTH SIMCOE POLICE SERVICE

The South Simcoe Police Service is conducting increased enforcement on the 7th Line in Innisfil after a rise in the number of wrong-way drivers.

In 2018, the Town of Innisfil declared the 7th Line between Yonge Street and 10 Sideroad a one-way westbound road with resident only access until further notice. There are multiple signs at both intersections indicating the road is one-way but some drivers continue to ignore the warnings.

Officers recently issued four provincial offence notices to people driving the wrong-way during the evening commute. These motorists create a dangerous situation for other drivers and police. We have received reports of close calls where head-on collisions were narrowly avoided.

South Simcoe Police Service officers will continue to monitor and conduct enforcement to ensure the road is safe. Always watch for signs that indicate a one-way road.

For your safety and the safety of other motorists, abide by the posted direction.

Drivers charged with Drive Wrong Way – One Way Traffic face penalties of 3 demerit points and a fine of $110.

We urge drivers to use alternatives such as 6th Line and Innisfil Beach Road.
