Woman tackled to the ground while walking dog in Collingwood: OPP

Members of the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently investigating an assault that took place (Sunday) night on a walking trail in the town of Collingwood.

The assault took place shortly before 9 p.m. on Sept. 26 when the female victim, who was walking her dog on the trail between Spruce Street and High Street, was approached from behind and tackled to the ground by a male suspect.

The female was able to fight off the assailant who was last seen running westbound on the trail toward High Street. The victim suffered minor physical injuries as a result of the incident.

The OPP canine unit as well as members of the OPP emergency response team attended the location, however the suspect was not located. He is described as a white male, approximately five-foot-10 and 170 pounds with dark hair and was wearing dark clothing.

The OPP reminds all members of the public to be aware of their personal safety at all times and this includes tips such as keeping your head up to remaining cognizant of your environment and people in your immediate area as well as avoiding distractions such as the use of headphones and electronic devices/cell phones.
