Woman reports witnessing indecent act on Trans Canada Trail in Cookstown

INNISFIL - South Simcoe Police Service officers are investigating an indecent act that occurred in Cookstown.

The incident took place on the Trans Canada Trail around 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2019. A woman riding her bike encountered a man committing an indecent act. The woman was not physically injured.

The suspect is described as white with a dark complexion and was wearing a dark top and shorts. Anyone with information regarding this incident or any suspicious activity is asked to call South Simcoe Police Service at 705-436-2141, 905-775-3311 or Crime Stoppers.

We want to remind our residents about these personal safety tips to help reduce the risk of becoming a victim:

  • Always be aware of your surroundings
  • Travel in pairs when possible
  • Travel in well-lit and populated areas, especially at night
  • Carry a cellular phone
  • Tell friends or family your intended route and what time you will arrive at your destination
  • Don’t wear headsets or any device that could compromise your hearing
  • Don’t take shortcuts through parks or alleys especially at night
  • Trust your intuition – if something doesn’t feel right, it likely isn’t
  • Call police immediately if you see anyone or anything suspicious
  • If you are a victim of crime, don’t fight back. Provide the best description possible

Police would like to commend the residents of Cookstown who are actively engaged in community safety and are assisting officers with this investigation.
