What to do if you find a military marker flare

SOUTHERN GEORGIAN BAY, Ont. - Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to inform the public on what to do if they locate what is known as a military marker flare. These flares sometimes make it onto the beach areas where they become visible to the public.

These flare are cylinder shaped, approximately 10 cm x 40 cm in length and will have a code on it that says if located notify police. These flares could potentially be harmful if tampered with so please DO NOT TOUCH if located. These flares are used by the military to mark waters during training exercises. Please notify your local police service if you find one of these canister type flares.

The Southern Georgian Bay OPP will notify the military for proper disposal of the flare.
