Waste management truck rear-ended by school van

ORO-MEDONTE - On Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017 at approximately 8:20 a.m., officers of Barrie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded, with Simcoe County Paramedics and Barrie Fire, to a motor vehicle collision which occurred on the Highway 400 off ramp to Bayfield Street in the City of Barrie.

The waste management truck had stopped for traffic when it was struck from behind by a school van. The driver of the van was transported to hospital with minor injuries. 

There was one 11-year-old child in the van who was transported to hospital as a precaution by school officials. This child was met at hospital by his parent.

The male driver of the van has been charged with careless driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
