Warrant issued for Wasaga man wanted for attempted murder

Provincial police have issued a warrant for a Wasaga Beach man they say is dangerous and is wanted in connection to an attempted murder investigation. 

According to Huronia West OPP, a victim was sexually assaulted and then stabbed in Stayner on Sunday, July 31. Police received the 911 call just before midnight. The victim, a woman, was taken to hospital and airlifted to a trauma centre. 

Police have issued a warrant for the arrest of Michael Zaakir, 31, from Wasaga Beach. He is to be charged with attempted murder, aggravated sexual assault, theft of a vehicle, uttering death threats and/or threats of harm, and failing to comply with a release order. 

Anyone with information on Zaakir's whereabouts is urged by police not to approach him, but to call 911 immediately. 

"He is considered dangerous," stated police. 

The investigation is ongoing by members of the Huronia West OPP crime unit.
