ORO-MEDONTE - On Saturday, June 24, 2017 at approximately 3:49 a.m., officers from Barrie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a traffic complaint of a motor vehicle going into the ditch on Hwy 400 North near Hwy 12 in Severn Township.

Upon arrival, officers located a male in a 2006 grey Pontiac in the centre median ditch. After investigation, the lone male driver was arrested and charged with driving a motor vehicle while ability impaired contrary to section 253(1)(a) and fail or refuse to provide a sample contrary to section 254(3) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

As a result of the charges, Russel Roopchand, 62 years of Toronto, was later released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on a future date. His motor vehicle was impounded for seven days and his driver's licence was suspended for 90 days.
