INNISFIL - A 30-year-old Everett man is facing several charges following a police pursuit in Innisfil.

On Saturday, March 9, 2019 around 8:30 a.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer observed a vehicle exit a parking lot in Stroud at a high rate of speed with a woman in the back seat and door open. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the male driver sped away. A vehicle pursuit ensued but was called off for safety reasons. Barrie Police Service was asked to keep a look out for the suspect vehicle. Shortly thereafter, South Simcoe Police Service located the suspect vehicle abandoned at Georgian Downs.

A woman who was determined to have been in the back seat of the vehicle was subsequently located on foot by Barrie Police nearby. This led to the apprehension of a male suspect and an 8-year-old child hiding in an out-building on a nearby property. Police learned that the child had also been in the fleeing vehicle. Investigation revealed this to a domestic violence-related incident.

The man was arrested and transported to South Division where he was charged with the following offences:
    •    dangerous operation (two counts)
    •    flight while pursued by a police officer
    •    operation while prohibited (two counts)
    •    forcible confinement

The accused was held for a bail hearing. The woman and the child were not physically injured.
