Vaughan driver faces impaired charges in Springwater

Accused is also charged with driving more than 50 km/h over speed limit

SPRINGWATER TWP. - On April 8, 2020 at approximately 9:25 p.m., a member of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting proactive patrols on County Road 27 in Springwater Township and located a vehicle that was driving erratically and over 50 km/h above the speed limit. The officer stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver, and found him to be under the influence of alcohol.

As a result of the investigation, Yuriy Nakhodkin, 42 years of age of Vaughan, Ont., was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:
    •    CC 129(a) - Obstruct peace officer
    •    CC 320.14(1)(a) - Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
    •    CC 320.14(1)(b) - Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was also charged with race a motor vehicle, contrary to Section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on May 5, 2020.
