The driver of a van which crashed into a Bradford Street hydro pole fled the scene on foot early Thursday afternoon and is being sought by Barrie police.
Two other people in the dark-coloured van were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Peter Leon, corporate communications co-ordinator with Barrie Police Service, said Alectra workers were on-scene just minutes after the 12:18 p.m. crash.
“They have to replace a utility pole that was damaged,” he said. “I believe it’s hanging, literally, in half.”
Leon had no information on the circumstances of the crash, but noted it’s early in the investigation.
Police are looking for the van’s driver. Officers were seen on foot with a police dog near Brock Park about an hour after the crash.
Leon said police were told that Bradford Street, between John and Victoria streets, would be closed for six to eight hours while Alectra workers did repairs.
“It’s definitely going to be until after 6 p.m., so that will impact the drive home,” he said of the road closure.
