'Unwanted' male at Barrie hotel lands in hot water with police

Police found the male near the scene and discovered he was in possession of fentanyl; 27-year-old is facing multiple charges

Barrie police responded to a call for an unwanted guest at an Essa Road hotel on Saturday, July 10 which led them to laying multiple drug-related charges.

The man had wandered away before police arrived on the scene but police communications coordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday he was found a short distance away and charged with several offences.

“We got the call at 1:40 p.m. about a man who was unwanted on the property. He had left before police could arrive but a quick search of the area found him in the Essa Road and Gowan Street area a little while after,” said Leon. “A search of the suspect found him to have fentanyl in his possession and he was subsequently charged.”

Ryan Walker, 27, was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, mischief under $5,000, failing to comply with probation and failing to comply with an undertaking.

Walker was also wanted by the OPP and South Simcoe police for other charges.

He was held for bail and his next court date is unknown.
