Two youths face multiple charges after Shanty Bay Road bust

The youths were arrested and charged with possession of a weapon, drug possession and trafficking and with assault related to an earlier incident

A Sunday night weapons call led to the arrest of two youth who now face charges related to weapons and drugs.

Barrie police and the tactical support unit responded to a call just after 10:30 p.m. Sunday on Shanty Bay Road after being alerted there were two males at the residence who were in possession of weapons and drugs.

An 18-year-old and 16-year-old male youth, both from the Toronto area, were arrested and charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, drug possession and trafficking involving cocaine and fentanyl. They also are facing charges related to an assault from an incident in February of this year.

Barrie police communications coordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday that while the weapon was a pellet gun, it had been modified to make it seem like a shotgun.

“It was a pump action pellet gun that has been modified and sawed down to resemble a sawed-off shotgun,” said Leon. “It is still classified as possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. It certainly looks the part of an intimidating weapon that if anybody was to encounter something like that, it would garner some attention."

Both were held for a bail hearing that occurred yesterday, with the result not yet known.
