Barrie police have shut down a heavily travelled commuter route for the morning rush following a two-vehicle crash involving a car and a cargo van on Dunlop Street West that sent two people to hospital.

City police received the call at around 7:45 a.m., on the bend just east of Tiffin Street. Officers have closed off Dunlop Street West between Tiffin Street and Ferndale Drive North for the on-scene investigation.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Jennett Mays said two people were transported to local hospital, but their conditions are unknown at this time.

“The incident is closer to the Dunlop and Tiffin area, but we have had to close down that entire section for now for the investigation,” Mays said.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area.

BarrieToday will have more information as it becomes available.
