Two men who didn't like group's music wanted in bear-spray assault: police

Three taken to Barrie hospital to have their eyes flushed following Sept. 1 incident in city's east end

City police are searching two male suspects wanted for assault with bear spray that led to three people being taken to hospital a week ago.

On Wednesday, Sept. 1 at 11:10 p.m., Barrie police were notified of an altercation near Blake and Johnson streets where a bear spray-type product was used. Police are now searching for two male suspects.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon said people were listening to music when the incident occurred.

“They were approached by two men who, as we understand it, did not like that music was being played," Leon told BarrieToday

Three people were taken to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre because they needed to have their eyes flushed and be checked out by medical staff, he added.

“So this is an assault. The bear spray was aimed at one person, but with others there, they were hit with it, too," Leon said.

Although police have released a pair of images, Leon admits “they aren’t the best.”

“We’re hoping someone can recognize the clothes, at least, and help us identify the men we’re looking for,” he said.
