INNISFIL - On Saturday, Dec.16, 2017 officers with the Traffic Unit conducted numerous R.I.D.E. checks at various locations around Innisfil. Officers checked approximately 500 vehicles and tested 17 drivers who had been drinking. These drivers all passed the roadside test.

Drug offences - 4
Liquor offences - 1

Shortly after 3 a.m., a 41-year-old Innisfil man was stopped by a RIDE officer for speeding in a residential area of Innisfil and given a road side test. The man failed the roadside test and was arrested and brought to the station.

While another officer was waiting on a tow truck for this man's vehicle, he was flagged down by a motorist to advise of another driver in the area who was suspected of being impaired. This officer noticed an 18-year-old Innisfil man, (allegedly) passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle. The officer arrested the man for impaired driving and brought him in for testing at the station as well.

Both men were charged with being over 80 mgs and impaired driving. Their cars were impounded for seven days and drivers licenses automatically suspended for 90 days. They will see a criminal court Judge in January to answer to the charges.

Officers will continue to be out all season long looking for drivers who are impaired by drug or alcohol.

There is no excuse for drinking and driving. You always have an option. Make the right decision. Call a friend, call a taxi or ride service, or just stay over.

Please don't drink and drive!

The Festive R.I.D.E. program continues until early January 2018.
