INNISFIL - Two 18-year-old men were charged following a street racing incident last night in Innisfil.

On Monday, Feb. 3, 2020, at approximately 10:00 p.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer conducting speed enforcement on Yonge Street near 6th Line heard loud revving exhaust from approaching southbound vehicles.

The officer then observed an Audi and a Ford that were travelling at high speeds and appeared to be racing each other. The officer conducted a traffic stop and two 18-year-old Innisfil men were charged with street racing. Both of the drivers were G2 novice drivers.

Their licences were suspended for seven days and their vehicles impounded for seven days.

Aggressive driving and street racing are dangerous, unlawful activities which put innocent people at risk of injury or death.  Drivers convicted of street racing face fines from $2,000 to $10,000, up to six months in jail and a two-year licence suspension.
