Two Essa Township residents charged in robbery investigation

Police say the pair were involved in a number of thefts from vehicles in the Nottawasaga area

Provincial police have charged two Essa Township residents with numerous offences in connection to a robbery investigation in Angus. 

On Sept. 30, 2022, members of the Nottawasaga OPP and Caledon OPP community street crime units, with assistance from the emergency response team (ERT), executed a search warrant at an address in Essa Township in relation to the investigation.

During the search, police say various pieces of identification were recovered. The identification pieces are allegedly linked to numerous thefts from vehicles in the Nottawasaga area.

As a result of the investigation, a 34-year-old Essa Township resident has been charged with:

  • Armed robbery
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - other drugs
  • Forcible confinement
  • Fail to comply with probation order - two counts
  • Unauthorized possession of weapon
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000 - two counts
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance - methamphetamine

A 51-year-old of Essa Township resident was also charged with the following:

  • Armed robbery
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - other drugs
  • Forcible confinement
  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Unauthorized possession of weapon
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000 - two counts
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance - methamphetamine

Both accused were held pending a bail hearing.

The names of the two accused were not released by police.
