Officers from our Festive R.I.D.E. team were kept busy Friday evening conducting spot checks in Innisfil.
Around 7:30 p.m., officers were set up on Maple Road in Lefroy and stopped a 62-year-old Innisfil man. Officers quickly determined that he was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested for impaired driving and taken to the North Division for a breathalyzer test which he failed. He will be appearing in Bradford Court on Dec. 7 facing charges of impaired driving and driving while over 80 mgs. His drivers licence has been suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded.
Later in the evening, officers stopped a 70-year-old Innsifil woman around 11:40 p.m. on Jans Boulevard in Alcona. Officers detected alcohol on her breath and demanded that she provide a roadside screening device test which she failed. She was taken to the North Division for further testing and is facing a charge of driving while over 80 mgs. She has had her driving privileges suspended for 90 days, her car impounded and she will be answering to the Judge on Dec. 7.
Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) is an enforcement campaign which originally started in 1977 as Reduce Impaired Driving in Etobicoke. The program is now a provincial campaign which is lead by the police community and involves spot checks where vehicles are stopped and drivers checked for impairment. The campaign has a significant public awareness component. The enhanced Festive R.I.D.E. campaign will continue until January.
