On Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018 at approximately 6:24 p.m. police attended the parking lot of 108 Anne Street North, in the City of Barrie, in regards to a traffic complaint. The caller contacted police after they felt that a male operating a blue Volkswagen parked in the middle of the parking lot was possibly impaired.

Police located the suspect vehicle and a query of the licence plates determined the vehicle had an expired validation of June 2016 however the rear licence plate had a May 2018 validation sticker displayed. The investigation also revealed a backpack containing stolen GPS devices and a flick knife in the front seat.

A 24-year-old Barrie male has been charged with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime x 2
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon

During the investigation, a bag containing women’s clothing, makeup and grooming items was located in the back seat. At approximately 7:40 p.m. a female was located hiding in the trunk of the vehicle who provided police with a verbal identification claiming to have been hiding because the driver had a girlfriend, which was not her.

Police located a health card with photograph in the female’s purse which identified her as someone different as to what she had originally provided to police.

Once police learned her real identity, records showed the female was bound by an undertaking with a number of conditions, namely; abstain from communicating directly or indirectly with the male who was just arrested in the vehicle. The female also had an outstanding warrant for her arrest for failure to attend court.

A 35-year-old Barrie female has been charged with:

  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Fail to Comply with Undertaking
  • Breach of Recognizance
  • Fail to Attend Court

Both accused were transported to the Barrie Police Service to await a bail hearing on Thursday in a Barrie court.
