Late last year, the Barrie Police Service began an investigation with regards to human trafficking that was taking place in the City of Barrie. The investigation focused on a company that was being operated locally as Nite Candy Escort Agency or NC Promotions.

This investigation which was conducted by members of the Barrie Police Human Trafficking Unit was thorough, detailed and concluded last Thursday with the execution of a Criminal Code Search Warrant at a residence located on Radenhurst Crescent.

Three people, two males, aged 48 and 45, from Barrie and a 44-year old female from Angus were arrested and collectively face a total of 52 criminal charges that include multiple counts of Trafficking in Person, Material Benefit, Procuring, Material Benefit Prostitution and Sexual Assault.

They were held in custody and appeared for bail hearings that were held at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on Friday, March 6, 2020. All three have since been released and are scheduled to appear next on April 6, 2020.

With regards to this investigation, Barrie Police Chief Kimberley Greenwood commented, “I commend our investigators for the excellent work that they did throughout the course of this investigation and as I have stated before, human trafficking has no place in our community or any other community.

"The funding and five-year comprehensive strategy to combat human trafficking that was announced late last week by the Ontario government will give law enforcement and our investigators the tools and resources required to continue investigating these horrific crimes and hold those who engage in this controlling industry accountable for their actions," she added.

Anyone with information with regards to this investigation or knows of anyone who may be a victim is asked to contact Detective Constable Michelle Jansen of the Barrie Police Human Trafficking Unit at 705-725-7025, ext. 2166 or by email at [email protected].
