Teen charged with attempted murder in Orillia shooting

OPP say 17-year-old suspect also charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; Orillia man, 19, faces weapons charge

A teen has been charged with attempted murder following reports of gunshots Tuesday at an Orillia residence.

Orillia OPP responded at about 2 a.m., Jan. 10, after someone called 911 to report gunshots. 

Police found “apparent gunshot holes at a residence” upon arrival.

A 17-year-old, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The accused is being held in custody.

A 19-year-old Orillia man has been charged with unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm. Police have not released his name. He was released from custody and has a future court date in Orillia.

The incident is believed to be isolated and police said there are no concerns for public safety.
