The Barrie Police Service is the second oldest active police service in the Province of Ontario and since 1853, our focus has been one that exists to serve, protect and enhance our community by providing professional, accountable and sustainable police services.

If you have ever wondered what we do to keep Barrie safe, now is the time to come join us to learn how your police service is “committed to our community." 

Representatives from various police units will share information in their area of expertise that includes: Training, Forensic Identification, Marine, Traffic, Fraud, K9, Homicide and Tactical Support.

These eight informative sessions of the second annual Citizen Police Academy will commence on Thursday, May 2, 2019, and continue each Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. until June 20, 2019, when the Academy will conclude with an official graduation. 

Class size will be limited to 20 participants, with preference being given to applicants who reside in the City of Barrie. Successful candidates will be required to undergo a background police records check due to the sensitive nature of the material that will be presented.

To qualify, interested applicants must be:

  • 18 years of age or older,
  • have no criminal record and  
  • be of good moral character.
