'Suspicious vehicle' call results in impaired, cannabis charges for G2 driver

INNISFIL - A 24-year-old Sharon man is charged with impaired driving-related offences after police were called about suspicious vehicle in Cookstown.

On Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019 just before 5 a.m., South Simcoe Police Service officers responded to report of a suspicious van parked on the street in the King Street South and Victoria Street West area.

When police arrived, officers detected an odour of alcohol and the driver showed signs of impairment.

The driver was arrested and transported to South Division where breath tests resulted in readings of twice the legal limit of alcohol.

A 24-year-old Sharon man was charged with impaired operation, over 80 and drive vehicle with cannabis readily available.

Because the man was a G2 licence holder, he was also charged with novice driver with BAC above zero.

His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

Thank you to the citizen that called us to report this suspicious vehicle. We encourage citizens to always report suspicious activity. In this case, the call helped us remove an impaired driver from our roads.
